How I got placed in Campus recruitment?

I consider myself as fully qualified to write this article since I got my job on my campus interview. I have attended 2 campus placements and I got selected in both of them. Hard work never fails. So, I wanted to share some tips for the students who want to put all the efforts seriously for getting placed in a good company.

Campus Placement

I am an engineer and as you all know I had 8 semesters. In our college, Campus placement would start at 7th semester. I had started my preparation in my 3rd semester. I was not preparing day and night since I had started early. If you are so close to your placements, you have to work day and night to make it possible.

I spent around 3 hours a day for preparation. I used R S Agarwal – Quantitative Aptitude, Logic Reasoning & Verbal Reasoning (Set of 3 books) for my preparation. I didn’t refer to any other books. This was enough for me to understand all the concepts and crack problems at any levels of difficulty.

I started with Quantitative aptitude then Logical reasoning and then verbal reasoning

Aptitude

I tried to solve one chapter per day i.e 3 hours per chapter. It doesn’t mean that I became an expert in that particular chapter within 3 hours. It is undeniable that the human brain forgets things so easily. I will explain the approach which I followed to solve problems and get practise.

Among the 3 hours, I will take half an hour or sometimes 1 hour to go through the definitions, get to know the terms, understand the logic for solving the problem. Then I will try solving the problems. Once I completed solving them, I will cross verify my answers. As days go by, this helps me to actually build confidence in solving problems. Once all the important chapters are covered, I will again start from chapter 1. Sometimes, when I wanted to revise the formula and concepts, it seemed so new to me. So, I started following this approach. I kept on doing these things repeatedly. When I was doing my 5th semester, I became so good at solving aptitude problems.

If you are so close to your campus placements, try covering 2 to 3 chapters per day and repeat when you are done with all the chapters. You don’t need to be an expert in all the chapters. You can concentrate only on some important chapters like Number systems, Time and Work, Time, speed and distance, Percentages, Ratio and proportions, Algebra, Age, Simple, compound interest, Logarithm, permutation and Combination, Probability

Communication skills

I was not good at speaking English fluently. So, I started practising for my communication also. I started conversing in English with me (in my mind voice). We all do this but in our native language or the language in which we feel more comfortable. I started doing this because I have no one to accompany me. I was so scared that people would tease me for not conversing in our native language. So, I started my English communication with my mind. Whenever I got stuck while speaking, there was no one to laugh around and there was no one to tease me. Because actually there was no one around there. It’s me and just me. I liked that and I developed my fluency in 3 years much better

Mini Projects

I started doing my mini-projects from my 3rd semester. I have done each project per semester. This really helped me to stand out in the resume. When everyone else was filling up their resume with so many certification courses, I have highlighted the mini-projects which I have done. Mini-Projects will help us to show them that we are interested in implementing our learning and we are passionate about our areas of interest

Internship

I wanted to develop my skills and gain industry experience before getting into my actual job. So, I started looking for an internship offer during my 5th semester with a resume detailed about my mini-projects which are done during my 3rd and 4th semesters. It was a small company that they cannot pay people but they train people and they will let you work on client projects. They will pay once the client has approved the product which you developed. That was really a motivation for me to learn and develop my skills. This really helped me to stand out in the resume. Then the internship projects took over the place of my mini-projects. When people were worried about how to fill their resume, I was having loads of content to fill in mine and that helped me to get highlighted from others. I worked on Saturdays and Sundays and in the evenings of weekdays for the internship

Some Tips

I had installed some interview preparation apps on my mobile. I used to go through those apps when I got the free time. Mainly, I utilised my travelling time.

I ate healthy foods to avoid falling sick so that I could continue my internship along with my college life.

We all have our personal problems which are distracting us from our work, studies, placement preparation… Let it go away from your mind. Concentrate on your preparation.

I have seen a lot of people who struggled to get placed after missing campus placement. Some got placed and some are still looking for jobs. I am not stressing that you should get placed in campus interview. You can try for a job even after you completed your studies. But it takes a lot of your effort and time since there is no one to guide you. I am not stopping you from enjoying your college life. 3 hours per day is not a big thing. You can do this.

I was so serious about getting a job while doing my studies. So, I put a lot of effort into this. Finally, I got placed in 2 companies. One of them was an internship opportunity at a good company. I was confident that I would get selected as an employee once my internship is over. So, I did my 2nd internship during my 8th semester. On completion of my course, I joined there as an employee. My dream had come true. I started going for a job and getting paid before even completing my studies. I am the person who strongly believes that “Hard work never fails”.

Work hard. Sometimes, hard work wins over talent. So, Don’t give up.

All the best!!

Stay Productive!! Stay Happy!! Stay Awesome!!
